EXCLUSIVE: AIR NZ Explains New Fare Structure
‘The airline has overhauled its fare structure for flights to and from Australia and the Pacific Islands.’
It’s done away with seat-and-bag fares, but you’ll be able to buy a seat-only fare and pay an extra $30 for a checked bag if you want one.’

To explain this, we’re joined by an Air New Zealand spokesperson.
Thanks! I’ve just flown all the way from Melbourne and –
Boy are your arms tired?
No, I was going to say that I continue to be impressed by the professionalism, dedication and attention to detail that sees Air New Zealand consistently ranked as one of the world’s top airlines.
Just a little joke.
We don’t joke around at Air New Zealand. Except in the safety videos. That’s why they’re eight minutes long.
Right. Well, have a seat.
I will! And I note you didn’t make things confusing just then by saying ‘Have a Seat+Bag’
Why would I?
Exactly. And it should be the same for your flying experience. ‘Seat+Bag’ is so last year.
And most of the years before that.
Old-fashioned thinking. From now when on you book with Air New Zealand to Australia and the Pacific, you just book a ‘Seat’.
Why?
It’s simpler. More straightforward, more streamlined, more ‘now’.
What if I have a bag?
Why would you want a bag?
I don’t know, I imagine if I’m flying to Sydney or Suva I might need a bag.
That’s perfectly fine, no need to feel silly about it.
